Red Orange Studio is looking for a dynamic, impact-oriented Creative Director to join our team of design thinkers and strategy lovers!

The Creative Director at Red Orange is a conceptual visual thinker, problem solver, designer, and a maker. You will provide leadership, inspiration and accountability for the creative team, bringing out the team’s best work and delivering results for clients. The Creative Director is the catalyst for the creative vision on accounts, campaigns and projects, setting a springboard for the team to execute and providing guidance and structure for producing quality work on time and in budget.

The Creative Director is quick to assess a client’s goal and build the vision for collaborative and creative problem solving. With a thorough understanding of web, print, digital, social, advertising, and marketing, the Creative Director maps out the strategy for bringing a concept to life across various platforms and mediums.

As a member of the team you’ll have the opportunity to make a difference and bring your mind and creative spirit to every problem. You will:

  • Be the Creative Team’s coach: inspiring, motivating, training, and hiring powerhouse creative teams.
  • Lead brainstorming sessions to generate new ideas
  • Conceive and facilitate implementation of creative strategy and concepts for various campaigns.
  • Be a quick thinker and an implementor. You’ll aim and fire a lot around here.
  • Lead the HBCU Internship program.
  • Help to build company social impact initiatives like The PIP Project.
  • Serve on the leadership team.
  • Engage with the community through thought leadership and speaking opportunities.
  • Work with Account Managers to build a project approach.
  • Work with Business Development Director to scope and pitch projects.
  • Work with media buyers to integrate creative strategy with digital strategy.


College degree required. Undergraduate degree from 4-year college with major in graphic design or related field.

  • 10 or more years experience in art direction and/or senior-level design; creative agency experience a must, advertising experience preferred.
  • Leadership experience and ability to manage a team of designers.
  • Expertise in video, digital, and animated executions, and proficient in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
  • Knowledge and experience in content creation and the conceptual chops to grab someone’s attention, connect emotionally and tell a great story.
  • Intimate knowledge of social media requirements and the tools for delivering for each platform.
  • Experience designing for platforms including, but not limited to: Youtube, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Pinterest.
  • Interest in – and knowledge of – emerging cultural trends.
  • A daily understanding of what’s trending and why.
  • An understanding of the diverse audiences on social, and the unique needs of those audiences.
  • Confidence to present ideas (including the crazy ones) to peers, clients and senior leaders.
  • An ability to have fun while working hard in a fast paced, agile environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage creative teams providing both inspiration and accountability.
  • Experience managing projects and campaigns within a budget and timeline.
  • Experience identifying creative resources and working with internal and external resources to deliver exceptional results.
  • Ability to develop strong client relationships to establish a level of trust to help sell creative.
  • Strong understanding of Website design and usability, Google Analytics, heat mapping, WordPress.

The Creative Director will report directly to the CEO.

Red Orange is operating in a hybrid environment, with options to work remotely as needed. However, it is expected the candidate will be primarily located in the Richmond area to work from the office, and meet with clients.
