Connor’s Heroes

Connor’s Heroes Foundation was founded as a salute to Connor Goodwin, a preschooler from Central Virginia who was diagnosed with cancer in 2006, and the heroes who supported his family throughout treatment. Today, Connor’s Heroes is a Richmond, Virginia-based non-profit dedicated to helping families cope with childhood cancer and supporting community researchers who are trying to conquer it.

The Red Orange Studio relationship with Connor’s Heroes began after they approached us for help redesigning and updating their website. In addition to a more modernized look, they needed the site to be fully functional, mobile-responsive and hosted on a user-friendly platform that could be easily updated in-house. They also tasked us with launching their new website before their annual Art Ball to help build awareness for the event.

Connors Heroes Responsive Website

Collaborative Approach

We worked closely with the Connor’s Heroes team to understand their needs and the updates they would be making to the site in the future. Our teams collaborated to create a sitemap that would support a more seamless user experience and better communicate their messaging to their target audiences. We also helped the non-profit develop a style guide to officially define their brand and maintain consistency in their marketing materials.

Solution

The website was intentionally designed to properly convey the seriousness of what they do while incorporating colorful and friendly childlike elements. By moving their site into WordPress, we were able to leverage the theme to ensure that the site was mobile responsive and that updates could be made easily by the client. The site’s look and feel was modernized with fresh photography, paired with a new sitemap and layout that made navigation much more intuitive. By clarifying and simplifying the site, the non-profit’s messaging could shine through and key audiences, such as donors and volunteers, were now just a click away from their destination.

After the conclusion of their website project, we continued to work with Connor’s Heroes through our PIP Non-Profit Award to produce an annual report and trifold brochure.

Outcome

From functionality to aesthetics, the non-profit’s website goals were met on time and in budget. They can now manage and update their website, while users can more easily navigate and digest information with a mobile-responsive design. Furthermore, the organization broke its own record for ticket sales to their annual ball, which was promoted shortly after the launch of their new website, selling out in less than a week. Their new print materials align with their website in color and photography that, paired with anecdotal testimonials, tells the powerful stories of the children and families who have been positively impacted by Connor’s Heroes’ life-changing programming and aid.
